A sex offender who used a river at a water park to prey on and video-record his victims was sentenced Tuesday to a further 19 months in jail. Luc Champagne wore a modified spy watch so he could secretly record as he sexually assaulted four girls between the ages of nine and 13 at the Calypso Theme Water Park east of Ottawa in Limoges last summer. Court heard how the year-old Champagne touched the bottoms and lower backs of the nine- and year-old victims during separate incidents in the Jungle Run River on July 31 and Aug. Champagne positioned the spy watch, which he had modified with a longer-lasting battery, under the water so he could record the assaults. Calypso security was attempting to locate Champagne after the brother of the year-old girl reported what had happened to a lifeguard, but before they could find him Champagne was attacked by two men when two other girls alleged that Champagne had touched them as well. The men and the girls left the park before police arrived and never filed a complaint. Champagne, who suffered cuts to his face and a bump on the forehead following the melee, was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police. Champagne also admitted to sexually assaulting two year-old girls; he recorded them but never actually touched them.
